From the Evolving Bubble Trend, Lace, & Fringe These are Top Silhouette and Designs of NYFW SS25

NYFW SS25: (Left to Right) Diotima, Grace Ling, AKNVAS, Christian Cowan, LaQuan Smith, OFF White, Romeo Hunte

New York Fashion Week had so many nuanced trends happening that there really was something eye catching to see from every designer. And all that creative energy started to make me excited to try styling my pieces differently this season!

As we’ve seen in many new released store collections, that sophisticated and elevated minimal designs have been present from stores like COS, Zara, Mango, H&M, Target, and Walmart!

But this year at NYFW, classic designs are less minimal. More bold, in different colorways, and giving movement even in the still photos. Here are the design features I noticed the most from all the collections and what I imagine will be present in the stores and in streetwear in 2025.

Fringe

Fringe is back baby and with edgier twist! From shimmery waterfalls, to delicate rips that ripples softly as it moves, the variety is all over.

Even taking your associated denim fringe, this year think bolder colors along denim wash’s such as Romeo Hunte’s sequined fringed coat and Off White’s metallic green fringe & denim look. Both are create eye-catching moment but add depth of texture with the shine and sequin additions. Outside of our tops and bottoms, fringe will also be popping up on our accessories. From exaggerating large handbags, kitten heels, in textiles of leather, suede, and even on blazers.

Fringe as a design will also bring the western aesthetic even more in the forefront this season but will also take on a more elevated, sophisticated, and even casual element. From more streamlined or clean designs, to edgier streetwear, sexy elevated pieces that blend other textiles together like lace or mesh. Fringe is going to be in a variety of ways for sure.

I also love that fringe this season is in varying widths and mixed with different textures like in Off White’s “Duty Free” runway show.

Stripes Galore

Stripes are globally having a moment right now and NYFW did not leave them out one bit!

In my previous post, I noticed stripes while studying Copenhagen’s Fashion Show this year as well! Rather it’s a strong modern power suiting moment like in Sergio Hudson’s 90s core runway show or casual street wear of striped polo designed by Romeo Hunte stripes are going to continue to flood our fashion visuals.

I think the beauty of stripes is the ease and dimension that they give to any outfit, even if it seems super minimal. It’s one of those effortless patterns in the foundations of fashion that never disappointments to make anyone look put together, mindful, and on point all at the same time.

As stripes have always been a staple for decades, this season's stripes will be in different widths, featured in mesh designs, and in layered in newer ways. Have fun with stripes in a more edgier, sexier, and elevated way is the approach for this classic stable print.

Drop Waists

One of the iconic silhouettes that dominated the 1920s has made a comeback along with fringe.

Drop waist silhouettes have been trickling on down the runway from specific designers like Romeo Hunte’s denim and black drop waist, Brandon Maxwell, and I even saw an edgier nod to the silhouette from Grace Ling

The drop waist gives a more elongated look and can give an effortless spin to a fit. Depending on how you approach your styling, a drop waist can be even more sexier because of where it hits on most body types creating an extension to anyone’s movements. But dropping that waist does not always have to give a sensual edge. Take the dynamic black and denim look from Romeo Hunte for example which is both casual yet sophisticated.

A drop waist can be as simple as paired with an oversized sweater, jacket, or blazer, and even a hoodie to be more casual but interesting to the eye. You can already see some of the drop waist influence in a lot of the maxi skirt variations offered in stores new released items for the fall too. From lacy silk maxi skirts, denim maxi skirts flared out at the bottom, to leather midi or maxi skirts with a lowered waist lines.

This is a great way to play around in a minimal way with your silhouette this season.

Lace & Crotchet

As mentioned earlier lace satin maxi skirts are taking over this season, and based on the reflection of the runway so is it’s distant design cousin. crotchet. Lace and Crotchet pieces were popping all over various runways this season and in different aesthetics. Rather you are going for a cutesy femme retro vibe, slinky sexy 90s, a sophisticated androgynous silhouette, this design is not going to leave our fashion eyes anytime soon.

Brands such as Diotima (Image 2 & 6) known for their elevated craft or textured weaving of crotchet show case this beautifully, Along with an exciting brand more people are talking about, TorLowei an elevated English design house worn by content creator Karen of KarenBritChic this fashion week, is known for their beautifully and flawless lingerie designs. I think the classic beauty of lace and crotchet is that no matter what piece it is in, you automatically exude a little something extra.

No matter if it is layered, body hugging, structured, or imbedded with movement there’s just something eye catching with lace. Now crotchet can also be extremely elevated as well and can add more depth and weight going into the fall and winter season.

Evolving the Bubble Silhouette

When it comes to the bubble silhouette there is something obsessive about this flirty and playful design that has a multitude of people in a tizzy. And I am definitly one of those people!

But this runway reflected a different view of the bubble silhouette straying away from the popular bubble skirt variation into new designs. Rather in a textural casual blouse as in Diotima’s presentation, an edgier take of early 2000s vibes as designed by Christian Cowan’s more angular blue skirt.

I am among the many who love the evolving bubble trend. Their is a perfect balance of drama in volume that I personally can not seem to get enough of. No matter of it is in your sleeves, bottom of your skirt or in new angles as seen on this years runway, this volume is going to continue growing in 2025

Intriguing Draping

Draping is a great design element that gives movement to a garment as well as drawing the eye to certain areas of the body. There is always an added drama, elegance, or even airiness that is created with draping too depending on the vibe the outfit is giving.

This fashion season draping is all about wrapping around the body creating draped layers along the body such as Brandon Maxwell’s all white look in image 1. The soft cream of the draped fabric overlaying the lace delivers a modern look that’s casual yet elevated. I also noted the addition of drape mixed with appliques such as Naeem Khan’s gorgeous green gown.

With the options we will see though, even the more elegant draped looks will take on a more casual or modern approach this year. Giving that balance to the more dramatic air that drapes naturally exude. Rather paired with baggy low rise denim, fringe, or even more structured pieces, drape will add that extra sauce to any outfit.

Drapes typically drape around the waist, or even elegantly cascade behind the neck to bring an extension along the body. You will probably see these designs in addition to drapes cascading along the sides of the body, various drapes across the body in numerous ways, or extra varying lengths added to tops, skits, and even coats.

Well another New York Fashion Week is loved and gone. Fashion always makes the end of the year fly by even more! Were there certain trends you have already have been wearing or want are there certain ones you can’t wait to try this season?

I personally am obsessed with the fringe, lace, and stripes!

Until next post!

Sierra
